Dr. Joseph Virgona, founder of East Geelong Medical Centre, is deeply committed to the well-being of his patients. A lifelong resident of Geelong, Dr. Virgona pursued his medical education at the University of Melbourne and honed his skills through intensive training at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Joseph has diverse interests, focusing on internal medicine, geriatric medicine, sports medicine, and industrial medicine to reflect his commitment to providing comprehensive patient care.
Beyond the clinic, Dr. Joseph is a dedicated family man and passionate about sports. He actively supports the Geelong Football Club and the local St. Joseph’s Football and Netball Club, reflecting his strong connection to the community. His approach to medicine centres on building lasting relationships with his patients, ensuring they receive the highest quality of care in a compassionate and supportive environment.

Charles Wilson completed his medical degree at The University of Melbourne in 1981 and has lived in Geelong since 1983. He joined the East Geelong Medical Centre in 1987. He also supervises Exercise Stress Tests at the Geelong Hospital.
Outside of work, he enjoys running and bushwalking.

When not at EGMC, Amanda enjoys her medical volunteer work in Vanuatu and exploring travel destinations with her family.

Cath is a proud Monash graduate who provides expert care in general practice at the East Geelong Medical Centre. She supervises our fully qualified registrar doctors who are completing their GP training and exams and also teaches medical students.
She is passionate about providing women’s healthcare, particularly for IUD and Implanon insertions and provides shared antenatal care in conjunction with Barwon Health.
During her free time, Cath loves to head to the coast and get some quality time by travelling with her family.

Anna is originally from the United Kingdom, where she completed her medical training in 2004 before furthering her training with a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DRCOG) and a Fellowship of General Practice (FRACGP). She has been living and working as a GP in Australia since 2009.
Anna enjoys all aspects of general practice, including the relationships formed with patients and their families whilst caring for and managing their health and well-being. She has a keen interest in women’s health and can offer obstetric shared care ( with Barwon Health) and insertion of Implanon. Anna’s other interests include children’s health and chronic disease management and prevention. Anna is passionate about helping patients live well at every stage of their life. Anna strives to provide an individualised care approach, listening carefully to patients and tailoring personal care to each patient to help them manage their health needs.
Anna also works in a teacher/mentor role for general practice trainee doctors, which requires her to learn and update her knowledge constantly.
When not at EGMC, Anna is kept busy with her three young children.

Dr Claire Griffits graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Deakin University in 2016. She went on to complete 3 years hospital training with Barwon Health and attained her Fellowship with The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2022.
Claire is passionate about promoting the health of women, children, adolescents and families. She has additional training in neuroprotective developmental care (Possums Program) and can assist with breastfeeding, infant cry-fuss behaviours, sleep and parental mood concerns. She aims to provide flexible and workable strategies which align with your family’s values.
Claire grew up in Newcastle, NSW. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her young family and French Bulldog Margaux.

Dr Andrew Donald completed his medical degree (1984) and postgraduate studies in Epidemiology (2008) at the University of Melbourne. He has been working in General Practice in Melbourne for over 35 years until moving to the Bellarine in 2022.
Andrew has special interests in Epidemiology and Diabetes Mellitus. He also works part-time as a GP Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Outside work, Andrew’s interests include running, trailwalking, contemporary/electronic music and spending time with family.

Dr Ellie is a University of Melbourne graduate with a Doctor of Medicine and has trained as a junior doctor at Western and Barwon Health. She is a Registrar undertaking specialist training in general practice.
Her qualifications range from being a registered prescriber of MS 2-Step (medical termination), completing paediatric training with the Sydney Child Health Program, and obtaining a Certificate of Dermoscopy for advanced skin checks.
Ellie is passionate about all aspects of General Practice, with special interests in child and adolescent health, fertility and family planning, women’s health, and dermatology. This broad range of skills assists her in providing compassionate care across all life stages.
Apart from her medical career, Ellie is kept busy with her young family. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, playing piano, travelling, and skiing.
